KDU University College equips graduates to be proficient in English, high EQ and Entrepreneurship skills

Employers in Malaysia face a big problem when it comes to hiring fresh graduates—and the statistics are alarming.

According to the National Graduate Employability Blueprint published by the then Ministry of Higher Education in 2012, almost 60% of employers have issues with graduates’ poor command of English, 40% or so opine that they have poor character, attitude and personality, while 25% have issues with their problem-solving skills.

Understanding the gravity of the issue, KDU University College (KDU UC) has taken it upon itself to ensure that its students will not only receive an academically sound education, but are also prepared to meet the expectations and demands of their potential employers when they graduate.

Its solution is a fresh approach to the academic process called the E3-Boosters, which emphasises English Proficiency, EQ Development and Entrepreneurship for all its students.

Each component was designed to tackle one aspect of potential graduate inadequacy.

English Proficiency will enable them to gain mastery of this globally-used language; EQ Development will instil a positive attitude in them; and Entrepreneurship will help them cultivate boldness, innovativeness and adaptability—traits that are extremely vital for problem solving in today’s complex world.

According to KDU UC vice chancellor Professor Dr Khong Yoon Loong (pix), “Our students don’t just get an education, they get the opportunity to be equipped with the E3-Boosters when they study with us.

“Over the next year or so, we shall implement the E3-Boosters in our programmes to help our students develop good English, a strong EQ and a spirit of Entrepreneurship,” he added.
