UCSI University Sarawak awards 28 students for their outstanding performance

UCSI University Sarawak Campus honoured 28 students at its Annual Awards Day aimed at recognising high achievers in academics, sports and extracurricular activities.
According to a press release issued yesterday, thirty people attended the event held at its campus here.
The university deputy vice-chancellor Emeritus Dr Lim Koon Ong in his keynote address told students it required more than just an individual effort to be academically successful.
“We must value support from our family, friends, lecturers and administrative staff,” he said.
Dr Lim, who was proud of the students recognised under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Award, said this had proven that they could succeed both inside and outside classroom.
Sarawak Campus chief operating officer Lu Huong Ying also congratulated the recipients and encouraged them to pick up more skills in their journey of learning.
“Studying for a certificate is not enough, students should acquire leadership and communication skills as well,” Lu said.

The other awards given were the Dean’s List to 24 students who earned more than 80 per cent marks in four subjects.
The university also honoured four Deputy Vice Chancellor award recipients who scored 80 per cent or more marks in four subjects and obtained a GPA of 3.70 and above, in addition to participation in extracurricular activities, sports, cultural events and performances.
Meanwhile, one of the recipients Michelle Kong, who completed a six-month internship in Japan, said the programme allowed her to gain so much experience.
“UCSI recognises our hard work! The internship went well for me and it is nice to have experience from a foreign country,” said Kong who will soon pursue her Master’s at the University of Nottingham.
Also present at the ceremony were the Hospitality and Tourism Management dean Dr Li Jian Yao as well as parents.
