The “Spine” is a dish rack, designed by KBU International College’s student June Lee, as an entry for Sabinai Dish Rack Competition.

The competition was organised by Sabinai- a specialised vendor for impeccably designed clothes drying racks and dish racks.

“The win, came as a surprise to me as I was not expecting it at all,” said the 21-year old Furniture and Product Design student from KBU International College.

Explaining about the concept of ‘spine’ and its functionality, he said: “The reliability of the human spine inspired me as the dish rack allows one to fit the utensils and pots easily.

He said the dish rack is also built with practicality in mind and it adds aesthetic value to the modern kitchen.

It also boasts a radical curvature and rock solid frame, allowing the plates and pots to be supported.

Adding further, he said: “ I used the elements which were taught by our lecturers such as detailing and so on.

The competition has helped me to realise my capabilities in designing the product.
The student sang praises about his lecturers who were there, guiding him throughout the process.

He thanked his friends for their continuous support.

The Sabinai “Spine” dish rack hit the market on 22 July 2014 and more than 50 units were sold out in a span of just three days.
School of Design Head Siow Yin Yoong said: “
