Taylor’s University Foundation in Design programme is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue a future in various specialisations of art and design such as interior design, graphic design, multimedia design and even interior architecture.

Emphasising learning by doing, learning takes place beyond the classroom via design trips, industry interaction and site visits, competitions, and other activities.

The 1-year Foundation in Design at Taylor’s University has intakes in January, March and July of each year.

Entry Requirements

  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
    Pass with min. 5 credits with a pass in Bahasa Melayu and History
  • O-Level
    Pass with min. 5 credits including English and Mathematics
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
    Pass with min. 3Bs

Students without a Pass in SPM or equivalent Art subject must Pass the Visual Aptitude Test (VAT) or Drawing Test or have a design portfolio review.

The Design Mac Lab is equipped with the latest industry standard design software and hardware.
Drawing Rooms
The Drawing Rooms are equipped with easels stands and drawing tables and are dedicated spaces for students to learn the use of a variety of media and materials.
Printmaking Room
The Printmaking Room provides hands-on exposure to the printmaking processes using a variety of printing techniques and book binding.
Multimedia Lab
The Multimedia Lab is equipped with powerful machines that allow students to work on 3-dimensional (3D) and animation projects, pushing the boundaries of digital expression.
Centre of Design and Architecture (CODA)
A dedicated space where students are able to conduct art exhibitions and display their work in a public setting while observing the responses of viewers. International artists are also invited to display their artwork in the gallery from time to time.

Final-year students showcase their work to peers, academics and industry members to obtain valuable feedback, enabling them to gain multiple perspectives on their work. The event provides an avenue for members of the public and industry leaders to interact with designers in an informal setting. Students will also manage and co-ordinate various aspects of the event as a team, including sponsorship and publicity.
Field Trips
Students undertake educational visits to various places of interest, including art galleries, agencies, factories and more, to gain insights and witness the concept of design and interior architecture in practice.
