Taylor’s University vice-chancellor and president, Prof Michael Driscoll said that the university’s performance in this ranking exercise puts it on track to achieve its aim to be in the top 100 universities in Asia by 2022.

“We broke into the 2019 world rankings for the first time to be among the top 2% of global universities, making this our biggest performance ever since being awarded full university status in 2010.

“Our strongest indicator is Employer Reputation, which is testament to the quality of graduates we produce,” said Prof Driscoll.

For Qaisar Naseem, this news cements his experience of being a student at Taylor’s University and hiring students from Taylor’s.

“Having gone through the learning process, I know that students who complete the degree from Taylor’s are well groomed to meet the needs of the industry. The practical learning that the university has incorporated as part of the syllabus is also well designed to meet the requirement of industry,” said Qaisar, who is the Group General Manager of the Villa Hotels and Resorts in the Maldives.

Qaisar puts down his ability to meet the challenges of the hospitality industry to his education at Taylor’s University.

After completing his education, he took over the reins of Paradise Island Resort in 2010 as the General Manager. He did not stop there. Qaisar, who joined the hospitality industry more than two decades ago, took over the position of Group General Manager of Villa Hotels & Resorts in November 2017.

“Now, as an employer, I have taken on close to 20 staff who have completed their degrees with Taylor’s because I know that they have a solid grasp of practical and theoretical knowledge, and possess good discipline,” said Qaisar.

He has won several awards so far including the Best General Manager by World Luxury Hotel Award 2015 Continent Indian Ocean, the Maldives Travel Awards People’s Edition 2017 and the Best General Manager by World Luxury Hotel Award 2017 Global Winner.

For Danaraj Ram Kumar, his education at Taylor’s University allowed him to acquire impactful industry experience but also enriched in and out of classroom exposure.

“At Taylor’s, when our lecturers provide assignments, it usually involves us coming up with projects that are industry relevant and not just theoretical projects.

“I also had the opportunity to intern at a company that was aligned to my passion which is IT and giving back to the community so it definitely allowed me to be driven and passionate during the three months I was placed there,” said the Bachelor of Software Engineering graduate, who works as a Business Intelligence Specialist at the world’s largest oilfield services company.

Mandarin Oriental Director of Learning & Development, William Lim agreed with the sentiment saying that he has observed that students from Taylor’s University are not only are fast learners and able to adapt to the working environment but they are team players.

“Some of the qualities that I have noticed in a student from Taylor’s are that they have the required industry knowledge, good communication skills and a willingness to learn.

“I believe that this could be a result of the various workshops and training organised by Taylor’s that they have to undergo prior to their training. Through this, they are well prepared for their internship and are able to seamlessly fit in into the working environment,” said Lim.
