Demand for HR professionals continues to grow in Malaysia According to Hays

Malaysia’s Human Resource (HR) market remains active with increased demand for permanent positions and contract staff in the retail, FMCG and manufacturing industries, says recruiting experts Hays.

According to the recruiter’s latest Hays Quarterly Report for July to September 2019, strong demand exists for Assistant HR Managers, HR Business Partners and Compensation & Benefits professionals.

Increased Demand for HR Professionals

“We are seeing increased demand for Assistant HR Managers. Most vacancies are newly created in order to assist HR Managers, Senior HR Managers and HR Directors with their workloads,” says Tom Osborne, Country Manager of Hays in Malaysia.

“Candidates are attracted to these roles as they open up a longer-term opportunity to progress and become a HR Business Partner or even HR Manager overseeing different business units. When employers recruit, there is often a high demand for candidates with strong experience in stakeholder management, strong English language skills and a high level of confidence.

“We’re also seeing high demand for HR Business Partners. Large organisations with large headcounts need HR Business Partners to strategise and execute HR plans across different business units.”

Meanwhile Compensation & Benefits professionals continue to be sought. “Companies are looking for candidates with strong hands-on experience in compensation to help them attract talent,” says Tom.

“The education industry in particular is aggressively looking for compensation & benefits professionals as it expands exponentially and needs specialised assistance to carry out competitive salary benchmarking, determine remuneration packages and execute retention strategies.

“Talent Acquisition specialists are also in demand. Organisations are recruiting these professionals in order to reduce costs and manage bulk recruitment at the executive level. Their skills are also utilised in organisational development where there is an increased focus on diversity and inclusion in the workforce.”

In terms of candidate trends, the recruiter has seen an increase in the number of HR professionals from the oil & gas industry looking for their next role. FMCG and manufacturing industries are often their preferred choices.

“In a final trend, talent acquisition candidates with extensive recruitment experience often want to move into a HR Business Partner role. However it can be difficult to make this move since employers want HR Business Partners with a sound knowledge of compensation & benefits so that they can work on retention programs and yearly performance reviews,” says Tom.
