He added at a press conference on Sunday (Nov 8) that the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations will start on March 8.

Mohd Radzi added that the details of both examinations will be released soon.

The SPM was originally set to start on Jan 6.

Mohd Radzi also said that the SPM trials, which have been postponed due to the conditional movement control order (MCO) in some states, will be rescheduled.

All major exams in the country will be postponed until next year, following the third wave of Covid-19 infections and lockdown restrictions in almost all states, said the education ministry.

Education Minister Radzi Jidin said this involved the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM).

He said the SPM, SVM and STAM exams will begin on Feb 22, 2021 instead. The STPM exam will be postponed to March 8, 2021.

The ministry’s decision will affect 400,445 SPM candidates, 23,313 SVM candidates, 92,964 STPM candidates and 7,996 STAM candidates.

Radzi said all students sitting for these major exams will be allowed to return to their respective schools and resume face-to-face learning on Jan 20 next year.

“Details on these public examinations will be announced in the near future,” he said at a press conference today.

Further information on SPM trial exams, coursework and assessments will also be released soon.

Radzi also said the rescheduling of public examinations would not affect the registration of students in public higher education and tertiary-level institutions.

He added that the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for matriculation students, which was scheduled for Dec 8 to 19, 2020, will also be postponed to next year.

“In facing the current challenges, we request the cooperation of all parties to jointly support the efforts undertaken by the ministry.

“Rest assured that every step announced by the ministry is to ensure that the future generation of the country can get the best education, even in challenging situations.”
