Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Students Attained Championship of Hilti Global IT 2021 Competition

Organised by Hilti, a Germany based multinational company that develops, manufactures, and markets products for the construction, building maintenance, energy and manufacturing industries, this annual Global IT competition which was concluded on 9th April 2021 aims to provide a platform for the young and innovative talents to undertake some of the most daunting challenges faced by the current construction industry. All candidates were required to formulate a solution for remote work and collaboration in the industry in the given time.

Team Techgasus made use of its expertise to develop a fully functional RFID system to manage the day-to-day operations of a construction site to improve the overall operational efficiency and performance. Embracing the IR 4.0 technologies, their prototype involved inventory management, site workers checking, process monitoring which was controlled and monitored by a Cloud-Based Internet of Things (IoT) system. Their stellar performance along with innovative thinking caught the attention of many which led them as the Champion of the competition.
Under the mentorship of Ts. Dr Lau Chee Yong, senior lecturer from the School of Engineering, the winning team comprises Chan Jing Hung, Lim Cher Khai, Lim Joon Yi, and Tan Jia Hao who are all Year 2 Mechatronic Engineering students. All finalists of the competition are given access to a fast-track application process for a paid internship at Hilti. The internship provides finalists with the opportunity to develop their ideas and bring them to life at Hilti.
It is also worth highlighting that it was an IT-centric competition, our engineering students had showcased outstanding capabilities transcending beyond their limits, which was a proud moment for all. It is also a strong testament to the quality of our programmes and APU’s commitment to mould industry-ready professionals with the necessary technical skills and relevant knowledge which are appreciated by corporates like Hilti. Bravo to Dr Lau for nurturing such talents and we wish all the best to our students where endless possibilities lie ahead!
