At the recently concluded Hackathon organized by the Malaysian Actuarial Students Association (MASA), Asia Pacific University (APU) teams did their university proud by winning all the top 3 winning positions. What was incredible is that out of the 5 finalists, all 5 teams were APU students!

Asia Pacific University (APU) Teams Win All TOP 3 Positions at Actuarial Hackathon Organised by Malaysian Actuarial Students Association (MASA)

Themed “General Insurance”, participants were required to perform programming & calculations on a given case study, produce a written report and present their findings to the panel of judges, who were made up of industry professionals from Axiata, QBE, and Funding Societies. All 5 teams from Asia Pacific University (APU), consisting of students from the Actuarial Studies and Computer Science (Data Analytics) programmes, demonstrated outstanding performance and battled through the preliminary & final rounds with confidence. They stood out among 11 teams (44 participants) from public & private universities throughout Malaysia. Team listings are as below:

All 5 teams were mentored and guided by Dr. Ho Ming Kang from the School of Mathematics, Actuarial and Quantitative Studies (SOMAQs). Due to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in place, the competition was held virtually over 9 days earlier last month.
