234 Malaysian researchers and scientists are included in this year’s Stanford List, among a total of over 100,000 scientists around the world.

The two Malaysian scientists, Professor Ir Denny Ng, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences Associate Head, and Professor Sarat Dass, School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences are among a total of over 100,000 scientists, whose published research papers have accelerated progress in their respective fields.

The Stanford List, created by analysing a group of over 100,000 scientists classified under 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields, features the most cited scientists across a large range of disciplines.

Professor Ir Denny Ng, who was recognised twice under the Stanford list is listed under the field of Engineering and the subfields of Chemical Engineering and Energy, while Professor Sarat Dass is listed under the field of Information and Communications Technology and the subfields of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing and Statistics and Probability.

This recognition of Professor Ir Denny Ng and Professor Sarat Dass among the world’s top 2% of scientists, representing the forefront of world leading high impact research as global leaders, has brought great pride to the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia community.

Over the years, Professor Ir Denny Ng has published over 200 papers with an h-index of 39. His areas of specialisation include development of sustainable production and consumption strategies, optimisation of sustainable value chain of palm oil industry, energy management, resource conservation via process integration techniques, synthesis and analysis of biomass processing and integrated bio refineries.

Professor Ir Denny Ng said: “In order to develop a scientific based society, scientific research and development is the key for success. We shall continue to contribute to the society development via sharing of our knowledge to all related stakeholders and contribute to policy development. We can then maximise our research impact.”

Professor Sarat Dass has published over 140 papers with h-index 28. His areas of specialisation include Bayesian statistics, data science and statistical machine learning.

Professor Sarat Dass said: “I am truly honoured to be in the Stanford list in recognition of my research work in Statistics and Data Science, and of the impact that my work has had in public health surveillance, biometric authentication and other application domains.”
