University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) Scholarships for Malaysian Students

The University of Nottingham Malaysia grants scholarships to deserving and academically excellent students in recognition of their achievements. Applicants are selected based on their academic achievements, leadership qualities and the socio-economic status of their family.

Students at the University of Nottingham Malaysia may apply for the following scholarships. Please note that effective 1 January 2012 existing students who hold two (UNMC internal) scholarships will retain the two and where they currently hold just one scholarship and become entitled to another over the course of their studies such as the Dean’s Excellence Award will be entitled to only one whichever is the highest.

High Achievers Scholarship

The High Achievers’ Scholarships (HAS) are available on an automatic basis to all academically-qualified students who are applying for entry onto the Foundation and Undergraduate programmes at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

Applications received after the published deadline will not be eligible for this scholarship.

Foundation studies

A scholarship equivalent to 25% reduction of the tuition fee is automatically awarded to all students who have obtained 8A’ s and above in their SPM and 7A’s in the GCSE/IGCSE.

The HAS is only available to students who apply for any of the three semester Foundation Year programmes in Arts, Business, Engineering or Science.

Undergraduate programmes

A scholarship equivalent to 25% reduction of the tuition fee is automatically awarded to students who have obtained the following results in the various examinations:

General criteria

  • A-level: 3A’s, excluding General Studies
  • IB: 36 points and above (6, 6, 6 at Higher Level)
  • STPM: 3A’s, excluding General Studies (A-minus will not be considered as equivalent to an A)
  • UEC: 7A’s, including language options

Specific criteria

  • Departments of Engineering: to include Mathematics & Physics (Chemistry for Chemical Engineering) as part of the General Criteria
  • School of Computer Science: to include Mathematics as part of the General Criteria.
  • School of Biosciences: to include Chemistry or Biology as part of the General Criteria
  • School of Pharmacy
  • BSc in Pharmaceutical & Health Sciences: to include Chemistry or Biology as part of the General Criteria
  • MPharm Pharmacy: to include Chemistry as part of the General Criteria ─ Only applies to the portion of studies in Malaysia

Applying

Students must submit their Offer Acceptance forms and pay their Offer Acceptance fee before the HAS may be awarded to them.

The HAS is awarded for only one academic year and is not applicable for the progressing academic year. Students may subsequently be eligible at the point of progression for the Dean’s Excellence Scholarships (DES).

Dean’s Excellence Scholarship

The Dean’s Excellence Scholarships (DES) amount to a fee reduction of 25%. They are awarded to top achieving students ─ at the point of progression for each academic year, ie from:

  • Foundation to Year 1
  • Year 1 to Year 2
  • Year 2 to Year 3
  • Year 3 to Year 4 (for Engineering course only)

This means that students who entered university without a High Achievers’ Scholarship may be eligible for the DES when they perform outstandingly on the programme they have undertaken.

Automatic Scholarships

Alumni Scholarship

Alumni who register at the University on full-time award bearing programmes, after spending a period away from the University, are entitled to a scholarship of 10% of the first year’s tuition fee.

Alumni, who register at the University on full-time award bearing programmes, moving straight from one degree to another, via Bachelors to Masters or Masters to PhD (not MPhil upgrading to PhD) are entitled to the following scholarships.

  • Those registering on Masters Degrees will receive a 10% tuition fee scholarship
  • Those registering on PhD programmes will receive a 10% tuition fee scholarship for every year of the PhD programme (subject to satisfactory progress)

Alumni scholarships are automatic on evidence of previous successfully completed study at The University of Nottingham leading to an award has been provided.

Family Scholarship

Family Scholarship is applicable upon entry only*

Children of alumni who register full-time at the University for an award bearing programme are entitled to a scholarship of 10% of the first year’s tuition fee.

This scholarship is automatic once an application form has been completed and the evidence provided of one of the parents being a Nottingham alumnus.

Sibling Scholarship

Where siblings register full-time on award bearing programmes at the University, each second and subsequent sibling is entitled to a scholarship of 10% of the first year’s tuition fee. The scholarship is applicable at point of admission, unless it cannot be utilized due to other University’s scholarship. The siblings need not be studying on programmes at the University at the same time but may have registered some years apart.

This scholarship is automatic on evidence of the sibling relationship and each sibling being registered on full-time award-bearing programmes.

Spouse Scholarship

Spouses who register full-time at the University for award-bearing courses are entitled to a scholarship of 10% of the first year’s tuition fees for one of the spouses.

This scholarship is automatic on evidence of the spouse relationship and of both spouses being registered on full-time award-bearing programmes. It is not necessary for both spouses to be studying at the same time to gain this award.

Alumni of Universitas 21 (U21) institutions Scholarship

Alumni of Universitas 21 (U21) institutions who register at the University as full time students on award bearing programmes are entitled to a scholarship of 10% of their first year’s tuition fees.

This scholarship is automatic once an application form has been completed and satisfactory evidence provided.
