classical music styles and instruments. Little was known of a young man who participated in the prestigious American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music 2013, which held its online competition recently.

Jeremy Yeo is the youngest, and only Malaysian to be amongst the First Place Winner in the Advanced Category. He will be representing Malaysia in the Winners Recitals in 2014 at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Dr. Sophya Genis was invited as a Chairwoman of the Competition. A graduate of the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, Mrs. Genis holds a Doctor of Music Arts Degree. She studied piano with such renowned professors as Alexander Yoheles, Yakov Milstein and Yakov Zak.

For the competition, Jeremy performed Chopin’s Etude Op.25, No.6 and Chopin’s Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor.

By 13 years old, Jeremy achieved an astonishing result of THREE Distinctions in practical piano exams, all within the same year — ABRSM Grade 8 piano, ATCL Piano Recital and LTCL Piano Recital.He had also received the Excellence Awards for both the ATCL and LTCL from Trinity Guildhall College, London.

He has been awarded a Fellowship in Piano Recital (FTCL) from the Trinity Guildhall College of London, and Diploma of the

Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (DipABRSM) at the age of 15. In 2007, Jeremy participated in the Asia International Summer Piano Festival and won 3 gold prizes that is 2 gold prizes in the Piano Solo and another in Chamber Music categories in Korea.

At the age of 15, he participated in The Malaysian Youth Music Festival 2009. He was awarded the Solo Piano Competition’s three top prizes : The Gold Award, Platinum Award for Diploma Level, and The Festival’s Solo Piano Special Achievement Award. He was the winner of the Open Classical Piano Category in the Roland Piano Festival 2010. For the 13th Hong Kong Asia Pacific Piano Competition, Jeremy won a silver prize for the Open class category.

In 2013, he is the First Place Winner of the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music 2013. Jeremy Yeo has performed in Malaysia Philharmonic, Singapore and in Korea as soloist and in chamber concerts. In 2012, he made his debut at KLpac with sensational success, performing works from Scarlatti, Chopin, Liszt, Prokofiev and Ravel.

Although Jeremy is just in his first year at UCSI University in theBachelors of Classical Music Program , he has learned some new

skills along the way, many of which are outside of the classroom. He cites ”like learning to be independent, organizing a concert and making proposal for fundraising to promote classical music and also the art of working with fellow students and other musicians” as some of the skills that he has gained within the first few months at UCSI University.
