Course Information for the BA (Hons) Mass Communication at UCSI University
The BA (Hons) Mass Communication is a specialised programme at UCSI University that paves the way for a career in the media industry through three pathways which are film and television, journalism as well as marketing and communications. With an in-depth understanding of the field’s fast-changing dynamics, our students become trailblazers with impressive achievements. They have have set up their own digital media companies, are working with some of the largest public relations companies in the world and write for leading newspapers.
The 3-year degree programme is recognised and accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Students will study this course full time with intakes in January, May and September of each year. PTPTN Loan is available for this degree programme. This programme received a 100% graduate employability score in the Ministry of Higher Education’s Graduate Employability 2022.

Assessments
Presentation, quiz, test, mid-term exam, final exam, folio, assignments. Coursework percentage: 60% and written examination percentage: 40%.
Education Pathway
Students who possess a good command of the English Language and plan to use it in their future career can pursue the BA (Hons) Mass Communication Degree programme at the top ranked UCSI University in Malaysia.
Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels with the relevant results can enter into the Foundation in Arts at UCSI University before continuing on to the BA (Hons) Mass Communication Degree.
Those with a Pre-University qualification such as UEC, STPM, A-Levels, SAM, CPU etc. students can enter directly into the degree programme.
Alternatively, SPM or IGCSE/O-Level students with at least 3 credits including English may study the Diploma in Mass Communication at UCSI College for 2 years and then continue on to Year 2 of the Mass Communication degree at UCSI University.
Entry Requirements for the BA (Hons) Mass Communication Degree programme at UCSI University
- STPM / A – Level
Grade C (GPA 2.0) in any TWO subjects or its equivalent; or a minimum grade of Jayyid in STAM or its equivalent and pass English at SPM/O-Level - UEC
A minimum of 5 credits B6 including English. Applicant without credit in English (UEC) but obtained credit in English (SPM) qualified for enrolment. - International Baccalaureate
Minimum score of 26/42 for six subjects (A Minimum of Grade 4 for credit transfer – Year 1) - Matriculation
A minimum CGPA of 2.0 and credit in English at SPM or its equivalent - Australia Year 12
Minimum mark of 60% - Canadian Pre-U
Minimum mark of 60% - UCSI Foundation in Arts
Completed (minimum CGPA 2.0/4.0) - Diploma or equivalent
Completed (minimum CGPA 2.0/4.0) - Diploma in Media & Communication or equivalent
Completed (minimum CGPA 2.0/4.0) - Diploma in Psychology
Completed (minimum CGPA 2.0/4.0)
English requirement has been changed to min entry requirement that is IELTS 5.0 and TOEFL 500 (programme standard page 25)
For international students:
In the event that the English Language Requirements are not met, student may be offered a “Conditional Offer” with the condition English competency is met through university’s English module.

Mass Communication Facilities at UCSI University
Media Broadcast Centre
UCSI Media Broadcast Centre (UCSI MBC) is a professional, full service broadcasting centre set up at the University to enable our students to develop their skills within a real-life broadcasting environment that is at par with industry standard. UCSI MBC is fully equipped with two voice recording rooms, radio studio, photography studio, television broadcast studio, and changing & makeup rooms. The Centre provides students the unique opportunity to develop and produce television shows, documentaries, radio shows, special features and many more, where they get to experience the entire process from inception to air.
Faculty of Social Science & Liberal Arts
The Faculty of Social Sciences & Liberal Arts offers programmes at the certificate, foundation and degree levels in the disciplines of Mass Communication, Social Science, Psychology, English Language & Communication, and Education. The Faculty focuses on industry-relevant programme in the areas of mass communication, journalism and broadcasting. It provides up-to-date psychology courses that cover masters in psychology and psychology degree as well. Detailed information on the programmes and facilities supporting the teaching, learning, research, scholarly and creative activities are available in the relevant sections.
Our vibrant, dedicated and creative team of faculty academics are committed to innovation and excellence in teaching and research for the development of intellectual and creative resources. Various innovative teaching and learning methodologies with a student-centred approach are adopted such as lectures, tutorials, group discussions, problem-based learning, oral presentations, practical / hands-on laboratory / studio sessions, team-based approaches, self-directed learning and Co-Operative placement / internship programmes. Students gain exposure to relevant industrial areas via external field trips. These include, among others, the Malaysian Parliament, radio and television broadcasting centres and art / design galleries. Guest lecture series and industry talks and workshops are conducted regularly to support the students’ professional development.
With a supportive and conducive learning environment, our Faculty aspires to produce industry-ready graduates who possess transferable and employable skills and are able to spearhead their careers nationally and internationally in mass communication. Staff and students from our Faculty are also actively engaged in research, scholarly and creative activities with opportunities for collaboration / networking with strategic partners.
