When choosing a university or college for design, it is important to look at the portfolio of the students’ work to see if the lecturers are able to guide them to a higher standard of work. Their portfolio would reveal a lot of things regarding the lecturers experience.

In addition, the number of awards won by the students and lecturers would also indicate the level of quality achieved. If the skills of the students were not good, then they would not be able to win awards. Therefore, the higher the number of awards, it would show the standard that the university or college have achieved.

Lecturers’ experience are of great importance especially in the area of design studies. This is because they are the ones who would guide and teach you on improving your design techniques. Make sure you visit the college and university and talk to some of their lecturers and check out their qualifications and work.

Facilities should be adequate for design students to use so that they can adapt to the conditions of the working world. Visit the universities to check out the Design studios, computers, Mac Labs, design software, and other design related facilities.

A solid internship programme with top companies can prepare and equip you with real world skills. They provide you with opportunities to apply and practice your skills. These will enhance your employability.

We didn't know that First City University College had won many awards for Interior Design until EduSpiral showed us the awards. The "famous" college that we had planned to join hadn't even won any awards in interior design. Zhi Yih & Chin Xien, Foundation in Design at First City University College

For example, a college may be famous for animation and multimedia but sometimes students make the wrong assumption that the college would be good for interior design as well.

  1. Interior Architecture & Design, is it hard to find a job ? If I managed to find one, is the salary high?

  2. Hi, I m interesting in fashion design and I would like to apply the course in Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA). But the entry requirement must submit a portfolio of art works since i am a science stream student what should i do?

  3. Im not sure if I want to study graphic design or marketing. Ive heard that it is tough to find a job if u study graphic design n even if u manage to find job, the pay is very low whereas marketing has more job opportunities

    1. Graphic Design, if you are good, your salary will be good but it won’t be like very high. Marketing can be higher if you are well trained and possess a strong command of the English language. You have to choose what your passion is. If you go for money but there is no passion, there is no point. For more details, you can email me at info@eduspiral.com.my with your full name and mobile number.

      1. What is the average salary for marketing and graphic design fresh grad? Do I have to be an outspoken person if I want to do marketing? What other jobs can I do when I study marketing besides direct sales?

      2. The average salary for fresh graduates in Malaysia is RM2100. In marketing, you do not necessarily need to talk a lot, it is not sales. It is about strategy. Why would you work in direct sales with a marketing degree?? For more details, you can email me at info@eduspiral.com.my with your full name and mobile number.

      1. Saito college no degree courses.. Is it ok to get a job right after graduating from diploma or will it be very tough?

      2. For design course, generally a diploma is sufficient to find work. If you cannot draw, a degree, masters or PhD won’t make you a better artist. If you are talented and with good guidance from experienced lecturers, you can go far. If you want a degree, you can always go to KBU International College as they are the first to offer the degree in design. For more details, you can email me at info@eduspiral.com.my with your full name and mobile number.

    1. PJCAD is not bad but not that famous. You can consider small specialist award-winning colleges like ALFA College or Saito College. Not many people know that KBU International College is very good for design. They have a 13-acre campus and have won many design awards. For more details, you can email me at info@eduspiral.com.my with your full name and mobile number.
