The Bachelor of Education (Teaching of English as Second Language -TESL) programme is designed to give students, the academic and technical skills in broad areas. The programme combines the precise training in methods of teaching English and practice with the analytical tools of education.

Furthermore, the course will equip graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to effectively teach English as a Second Language. The degree programme at private universities desires to produce eloquent professionals in English who are well-versed with issues in TESL. The programme is designed as a transformative program, which offers students, the education, training, and first-hand experience which are essential for successful international careers.

Students are exposed to effective current methods and technologies in the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), and to produce graduates with leadership skills and a committed sense of social responsibility. The programme will train students for current and future leadership responsibilities with the development of systematic understanding, decision making and communication skills. During the degree programme students will learn linguistics, literature and pedagogy as well as a foreign language.

Education Pathway

Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels may go for the Foundation in Arts at a top private university in Malaysia for 1 year before continuing on to the 3-year Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)Pre-University students with the relevant results in STPM, A-Levels, SAM, CPU, AUSMAT, etc. can enter directly into Year 1 of the degree programme.

Entry Requirements

  • Matriculation/Foundation – minimum CGPA of 2.0 in relevant fields as recognized by the MOHE or or equivalent
  • Diploma – minimum CGPA of 2.0 in relevant field or or equivalent
  • A-Levels – Grade D in two subject or or equivalent
  • UEC – minimum of 5 B’s.
  • STPM – Grade C (GPA 2.0) in two subject or or equivalent

Can I transfer my credits from my diploma when I’m doing my degree in HELP university? Means like can I drop the subjects that I have taken in my diploma course?

Hi there,I’m Ayshwani…I am SPM candidate this year and I am considering TESL for my further studies..Actually I have been going trough confusions because I am not being able do decide what suits me perfectly…I have few questions here…how long will it take for me to complete TESL….Can I teach as a lecturer after completing TESL?…do TESL have transfer degree programme to UK like the law students have…after completing TESL..can I work abroad in country like singapore or india?…I am really sorry for the bunch of questions I asked…Ur help is very much appreciated.:) thank you..

    1. You will study Foundation for 1 year and then degree for 3 years. Yes, you can work as a lecturer after completing the TESL degree. You can transfer for your final year if you have the money. It will cost more than RM100,000 a year overseas. You can apply to work overseas but there is no guarantee they will hire you. It also depends on how good you are.
