It is important to choose the right university that would equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to move up in your career. Many students make the mistake of choosing a university for their studies for the wrong reasons and then later realise that they cannot get the promotion or salary increment because they did not get the skills needed. English is one of these skills that most students do not take seriously about its importance for promotion and salary increments in future jobs. Think about it, if you are unable to write a report or email in proper English or do a presentation smoothly, how would you be able to become a manager or CEO eventually?

Study at an English Speaking University for a Better Future
Choosing a university where the students mostly use English to communicate is important so that you can improve your English. According to a report on May 29, 2013 in the Star newspaper, “A research study has confirmed that there is a correlation between English language skills and the salary gap between those who are proficient in the language and those who are not.
A study by research organisation Euromonitor International for the British Council states that the learning of the English language could increase the earning power of individuals in developing countries by approximately 25%.”f
A lot of students also like to wait a long while before they start their Foundation studies. We must keep in mind that “TIME = Money”. The faster you begin your studies, the faster you complete, the faster you begin your work and gain valuable work experience and this translates to money in term of your salary.
Remember, the decisions that you make now, can change your life (in this case, your salary) forever. Take time to discuss with an experienced counselor to make your decisions wisely. Choose the university with the best environment and not the university with the cheapest fees, so that your salary will high for the next 60 years of your work life
I have made a simple calculation of how much you would earn at age 31, if you begin your studies in January. Look at the amount of money that you could have ad make the right decision.
1) SPM – Foundation (1 year) – Degree (3 years) = graduate at age 21
a) Graduates with good command of the English language
- Starting salary as Executive at RM2,800 x 12 months of first year work = RM33,600
- 2nd year salary after 12% increment = RM3,136 x 12 months = RM37,632
- 3rd year salary after promotion to Senior Executive because of hard work & good English communication skills, given a RM600 increment = RM3,736 x 12 months = RM44,832
- 4th year salary after 12% increment = RM4,148 x 12 months = RM50,208
- 5th year salary after 12% increment = RM4,646 x 12 months = RM55,752
- 6th year salary after promotion to Assistant Manager because of hard work & good English communication skills, given a RM600 increment = RM5,246 x 12 months = RM62,952
- 7th year of salary after 12% increment = RM5,876 x 12 months = RM70,512
- 8th year of salary after 12% increment = RM6,581 x 12 months = RM78,972
- 9th year salary after 12% increment = RM7,371 x 12 months = RM88,452
- 10th year salary after promotion to Manager because of hard work & good English communication skills, given a RM1,000 increment = RM8,371 x 12 months = RM100,452
Total salary at age 31 = RM623,364
b) Graduates with weak English communication skills
- Starting salary as Executive at RM2,700 x 12 months of first year work = RM32,400
- 2nd year salary after 8% increment = RM2,916 x 12 months = RM34,992
- 3rd year salary after 8% increment = RM3,149 x 12 months = RM37,788
- 4th year salary after 8% increment = RM3,401 x 12 months = RM40,812
- 5th year salary after promotion to Senior Executive given a RM600 increment = RM4,001 x 12 months = RM48,012
- 6th year salary after 8% increment = RM4,321 x 12 months = RM51,852
- 7th year of salary after 8% increment = RM4,666 x 12 months = R55,992
- 8th year of salary after 8% increment = RM5,039 x 12 months = RM60,468
- 9th year salary after 8% increment = RM5,442 x 12 months = RM65,304
- 10th year salary after 8% increment = RM5,877 x 12 months = RM70,524
Total salary at age 31 = RM498,144 ( a difference of RM125,220 from the graduate with good English taking the Foundation course)
2) SPM – STPM (2 years) – Fail STPM so take Foundation (1 year) – Degree (3 years) = graduate at age 23
Graduates with weak English communication skills
Total salary at age 31 = RM362,316 ( a difference of RM261,048 from the graduate with good English taking the Foundation course)
The calculation is only until your age of 31. Imagine how much you could have earned or lost by age 60. Think and decide well.
Do you want to be at age 47, with a house loan, 3 young children and your father in the hospital, and look at your low salary wishing you had made a better decision 30 years ago. Think and decide well.
Hi,if i decide to study in penang, which campus is the most famous in diploma in accounting?N i also heard about MQA accreditation, what is it?

How about if a person takes the one and a half year Cambridge A-levels in July after SPM, graduates from the A-levels course in November the following year and enters a degree course in March after A-levels? (taking SPM at the age of 17, starting A-levels at the age of 18, ending A-levels at the age of 19, and starting a 3 year degree course at the age of 19/20, hence graduating at the age of 22/23? In addition to this, this individual has an excellent command of the English language.
