Studying the Film Studies & Broadcasting Degree Course at a Private University in Malaysia

  • The course aims to cultivate high quality graduates familiar with production processes and aware of what is needed to produce successful movies.
  • Students in the programme will experience a rigorous emphasis on practical and thinking skills through their involvement in individual or team projects where the overall graduate capability is to create completed body of work that competently achieves the aesthetic and production benchmark of the film industry.

The three-year Film & Broadcasting degree  programme takes a comprehensive approach to the “script-to-screen” method of filmmaking, where students begin their studies with the basics of idea development right up to producing and showing work of their own.

The degree programme exposes students to a wide spectrum of broadcasting areas, including script writing, multimedia creation, video shooting and editing, audio recording, directing and producing programmes to inform, entertain or shape society at large.

In addition, students are taught to merge theory and practice as well as work on short films, ranging from narrative fiction film and documentary to music video and interactive and experimental moving images.

And you will start making films right away – from day one. There is nothing better than learning by doing. As a director, writer, producer, cinematographer, sound designer or editor, you will bring your stories to life by using some of the most state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities

What Equipment will you use in your Studies?

Students may have access to motion capture facilities, 180-degree green screen stage, TV studio, 3D cinema, Mac editing lab and plenty of cameras, lights and sound equipment for you to make your films.

Students may also work with industry-standard facilities such as the audio & video editing laboratory, and audio recording & broadcasting studio, providing exposure to latest software and practical experience with relevant equipment.

Students are also trained to use the latest industry-standard software such as Final Cut Pro and Pro Tool.

Internships

In addition, students will undergo a 10-12 week internship experience with production houses, broadcasting firms or media agencies provide real life experience and understanding of the various job functions.

Who Should Study?

Students who are familiar with present day digital media consumption of moving images, have a keen eye in art and design and have a distinctive interest for digital content production with individual flair to grow with the connected film & media industry.

Education Pathway

Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels with at least 3 credits may enter into the 2.5-year Diploma in Film & Broadcasting. Upon completion of the Diploma in in Film & Broadcasting programme, they can then continue on to Year 2 of the degree in Film, Cinematic Arts or Media Studies. Students would also need 3 credits in SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels to enter the Diploma in Film & Broadcasting.

Alternatively, students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels with at least 5 credits can consider taking the Foundation in Cinematic Arts. After completion, you will enter into Year 1 of the degree programme.
