Programme content for the Business and Finance MA Degree Programme at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia

First Year
The main aspects of business management and finance are developed. Subjects include Organisational Behaviour, Financial Markets Theory and Corporate Financial Theory. Quantitative Methods is taken as preparation for later study and four elective courses are also selected.
Second Year
Finance courses include Financial Derivatives, Mergers and Acquisitions, International Bond and Currency Markets, and Managing Corporate Value. Business Management courses include Strategic Management. Research Methods is undertaken as preparation for the dissertation in Year 3. Students also choose two further business management courses.
Third Year
Students undertake a dissertation focusing on either a business management or finance topic. Finance courses include: Equity Markets and Fund Management, Risk Management and Derivatives, and Contemporary Issues in Finance. Management courses include International Business Law, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Marketing.
Teaching and Assessment for the Business and Finance MA Degree Programme at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia
Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials and project work. Each course broadly requires four to five hours per week of contact time in classes and the equivalent in directed self-study during teaching weeks.
Course assessment is generally based on either coursework or an exam at the end of the semester, or a mixture of the two at the end of the semester or academic year.
