“Does Computer Science pay well?”, “Is Computer Science in demand in Singapore?”, “How do I get into Computer Science?” are frequently asked questions, as software engineer salaries increase by as much as 32% in 2021, despite the pandemic.

In this guide, we discuss and compare the salaries of fresh graduates from local universities for computer science (and related) courses from NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT and SUTD.

That is according to the latest 2021 Graduate Employment Survey (GES), jointly conducted by the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU). Released on February 2022, GES questioned fresh graduates about their employment status and salary as of November 1, 2021.

Please keep in mind that the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), DigiPen, University of Glasgow and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) are still conducting graduate pay surveys, and the numbers used are from 2020 GES.

Computer Science pays very well in Singapore!

NTU Double Degree in Business and Computing earns $8225 at the 75th percentile!

It’s crucial to note that this advice isn’t a definitive guide to what kind of pay a recent graduate should expect. However, it should still be highly useful in negotiating your wage and in making decisions about your courses and future.

Gross monthly salary pertains only to full-time permanently employed graduates. It comprises basic salary, overtime payments, commissions, fixed allowances and other regular cash payments, before deductions of the employee’s CPF contributions and personal income tax. Employer’s CPF contributions, bonuses, stock options, lump sum payments, and payments-in-kind are excluded.

National University of Singapore (NUS) Computer Science Salaries

6,897 fresh graduates and 830 follow-up graduates from NUS were surveyed in November 2021 and the overall response rates obtained were 74.6% and 69.4% respectively. Computer science graduates made up a small part of it.

The salary at the 25th, 50th (median) and 75th percentile for the following degree are:

  • Bachelor of Computing (Computer Science): $5000, $6000, $6900
  • Bachelor of Computing (Information Security): $4305, $5400, $5500
  • Bachelor of Computing (Information Systems): $4500, $5000, $5400
  • Bachelor of Computing (Business Analytics): $4800, $5400, $6125
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering): $4500, $5400, $6200

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore Computer Science Salaries

5,599 fresh graduates and 114 follow-up graduates from NTU were surveyed in November 2021 and the overall response rates obtained were 75.1% and 78.1% respectively. Computer science graduates made up a small part of it.

The salary at the 25th, 50th (median) and 75th percentile for the following degree are:

  • Double Degree in Business and Computer Engineering / Computing: $5250, $6300, $8225
  • Computer Science: $4200, $4800, $5450
  • Computer Engineering: $4000, $4500, $5000
  • Information Engineering and Media: $3900, $4200, $4800

Singapore Management University (SMU) Computer Science Salaries

1,914 fresh graduates and 156 follow-up graduates from SMU were surveyed in November 2021 and the overall response rates obtained were 76.3% and 78.8% respectively. Computer science graduates made up a small part of it.

The salary at the 25th, 50th (median) and 75th percentile for the following degree are:

  • School of Information Systems: $4200, $5000, $5350
  • School of Information Systems (Cum Laude and above): $5000, $5350, $5833

Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Computer Science Salaries

Note: Figures used were from 2020 GES.

2,172 full-time graduates from SIT were surveyed in Mar 2021 and the overall response rate obtained was 86.6%. Computer science graduates made up a small part of it.

The salary at the 25th, 50th (median) and 75th percentile for the following degree are:

  • DigiPen – Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Game Design: $3500, $4000, $4200
  • DigiPen – Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation: $3880, $4200, $4500
  • SIT – Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Information & Communications Technology (Information Security): $3600, $4300, $4630
  • SIT – Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Information & Communications Technology (Software Engineering): $3600, $4000, $4750
  • University of Glasgow – Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing Science: $4000, $5000, $5000

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) Computer Science Salaries

Note: Figures used were from 2020 GES.

372 full-time and 62 follow-up graduates from SUTD were surveyed in Feb 2021 and the overall response rates obtained were 81.2% and 74.2% respectively. Computer science graduates made up a small part of it.

The salary at the 25th, 50th (median) and 75th percentile for the following degree are:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Information Systems Technology and Design): $4000, $4500, $5000
