With any 3 credits in SPM including Maths and a Pass in BM & Sejarah, you can go for the Diploma in Information Technology or Diploma in Computer Science course at a top private university in Malaysia. After the 2-year diploma, you can continue on to Year 2 of the Degree at the same university or college if the degree course is offered.

If not, you can transfer your diploma credits into another university to enter into Year 2 of the degree for another 3 years depending on the exemptions. It will take about one to three weeks for the university to perform the exemption evaluation.

To perform exemptions, you will need to submit the following documents to the university of interest for exemption evaluation:

  • Transcripts for the subjects taken
  • Course outline for all subjects taken
  • Letter of Completion or Diploma Certificate
  • Copy of SPM certificate
Please note that there is no PTPN Loan for Foundation. For the Diploma you can apply for the PTPN Loan

Information is paramount and information technology (IT) influences all kinds of human activity. Benefits of technology include increased productivity in many work-related and personal tasks.

Information Technology (IT) refers to anything related to computing technology, such as networking, hardware, software, the Internet, or the people that work with these technologies. Most organisations in Malaysia have IT departments to manage the computers, networks, and other technical areas related to their businesses. IT jobs include computer programming, network administration, computer engineering, Web development, technical support, and many other related jobs.

Companies depend on information technology to help them be more productive. This is a career that benefits any business by allowing companies to work more efficiently and to maximise productivity. And with that comes faster communication, electronic storage and the protection of important documentation.

Furthermore, Information Technology (IT) also includes the management of data, whether it is in the form of text, voice, image, audio or some other form. It can also involve things related to the Internet. Information Technology (IT) involves the transfer of data, so it makes sense that the Internet would be a part of IT. IT has become a part of our everyday lives and continues evolve quickly.

Diploma holders can seek employment in the area of internet commerce/e-commerce; software development; database administration, system support, etc.

But I would advise students to go for the degree because there are too many diploma and degree graduates out there therefore to remain competitive in the workforce, you should get a degree.

Many students have heard that there could be no jobs for IT graduates because many are unemployed.

While this may be true, the jobs are still plenty out there. It is not that there are no jobs, it is because the graduates do not have the skills and knowledge even after going through university.

This is because they have chosen a cheaper university where they did not have experienced lecturers to equip them well. The university environment is also important because if most students speak in Mandarin at the university, then you won’t be able to improve on your communication skills in English which is important in getting a job in a Multi National Company.
