    • In addition, the Foundation Programme in Malaysia is a pre-university program designed to help students meet the entry requirements for first-year university and prepare them to handle the rigours of undergraduate studies.     • Who Should Study Foundation?: Students who intend to study at private universities in Malaysia and do not plan to go overseas after their Pre-U. You can study Foundation and then enter Year 1 of the degree programme before going overseas. It is also more affordable than the external Pre-U programmes.
    • Recognition: Mostly in Malaysia and some overseas. As long as the Foundation course is accredited by MQA, it will be accepted by another private university for entry into the relevant degree programme.
    • Assessment: Assessments comprise coursework, class tests and examinations. Internally assessed by the private university. The coursework could cover different assessment tasks such as projects, assignments, laboratory work, presentations, tests, and others as assigned throughout each semester. The final examination is conducted at the end of each semester. The assessments are subject to quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards and ensuring fair assessment.
    • Duration: 12 months
    • Number of Subjects: 10 to 15

    • Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) is a pre-university course based on the Australian education system. Students after IGCSE/O-Levels planning to study in Australia for their degree programme can consider taking this
    • There are basically two types of Australian Matriculation in Malaysia. They are the SACE International) and the Western Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT). Both of these pre-university programmes are based on the Australian education system and both incorporate a combination of coursework and final exams which ultimately leads to an Australian Year 12 qualification.
    • The South Australian Matriculation (SAM) or SACE International is administered by the SACE Board of South Australia, a statutory authority of the South Australian Government. SACEi students will be assessed and graded based on 70% college-based assessment (coursework) and 30% final examination.
    • The difference between SACE International and The Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) is that AUSMAT is administered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority of Western Australia, a statutory authority of the Western Australian Government. Unlike SAM, those studying AUSMAT will be assessed and graded based on 50% coursework and 50% examination.
    • You will need to attend the program around 10 to 12 months long. The subjects you are required to take is 5. Within the programme, you will be assessed by coursework and final exam.
    • Who Should Study AUSMAT?: This course is ideal for students wanting to pursue their tertiary education in Australia or New Zealand as it follows the Australian study methods in preparing them. It is also accepted by most universities in the UK and Singapore.
    • Assessment: Balance of continuous internal assessment and a final external examination. Students are provided with a university aggregate score (out of 90 marks) and a tertiary entrance rank (TER), a percentile ranking that is recognised without modification by all tertiary selection agencies in Australia. Students must complete 5 subjects, including 1 subject from List 1 and at least 1 subject from List 2. In addition, students must achieve a satisfactory score (10/20 or better) in either English as Second Language Studies, or English Studies.
    • Duration: 10, 12 or 18 months
    • Number of Subjects: 6

    • Canadian Pre-University (CPU) is a pre-university programme organized by colleges in Malaysia with Canada education system.
    • The programme runs for around 12 to 15 months. You are required to take 6 subjects. During the programme, you will be graded based on the combinations of coursework and also the final exam.
    • Upon meeting all requirements of the programme, students will graduate with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
    • Assessment: Assessment will be 70% coursework and 30% final examinations. Coursework includes evaluations conducted throughout the programme; quizzes, assignments, projects and class tests. The final assessment will be in the form of an examination.In addition, to graduate, students must sit for an external literacy test administered in March, perform Ten (10) hours of recognised Community Involvement.
    • Duration: 10, 12 or 18 months
    • Number of Subjects: 6
    • Recognition: It is designed based on the course guidelines and standards of the Ministry of Education and Training of the Ontario Province.
  5. Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY)
    • The Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) is the academic bridge for students to progress successfully into undergraduate studies at Monash University Malaysia.
    • Equivalent to the Australian Year 12, this course is conducted on a modular teaching and learning concept and is usually completed over two semesters, between nine and eleven months. Students have the option to extend the duration of study to three semesters, if necessary, to retake selected units and to improve overall score.
    • The MUFY qualification is also recorgnised by other Australian universities, universities in New Zealand and a growing number of established universities in the UK. Generally, it’s best suited for students who intend to study at Monash University in Malaysia or Australia.

    • Malaysian students planning to study in the USA can do so with the American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) offered at top private colleges. With at least 5 credits, students after IGCSE/O-Levels from Malaysia can enter the American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) for 2 years before continuing on to one of the universities in the USA for the final 2 years. This will allow parents to save substantially on tuition fees and cost of living while studying in Malaysia. The American education system is different from the rest of the world and students need to research and understand it before embarking on their studies.
    • The American undergraduate degree provides an education that emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills. American education provides a flexible, holistic and well-rounded approach to education. It produces graduates with strong critical and analytical thinking skills with the ability to put knowledge into action.
    • The education is learning-driven instead of exam-driven. Students are groomed to be all rounded team players with strong critical thinking and communication skills.
    • Students are expected to speak, ask, and challenge your instructors during discussions in / outside of class.
    • Who Should Study the ADP?: It is very cost saving for students to study the first 2 years in Malaysia before continuing to the USA for their final 2 years. However, students must be sure that they want to study in the USA as well as have the finances. This is because the ADP is not accepted for entry into universities at other countries and also not at Malaysia’s private universities.
    • Assessment:Students are assessed through exams, coursework, assignments, presentations, quizzes and research papers. The percentage of exams and assignments varies depending on the subject you are taking.  Continuous learning and testing system (70% coursework, 30% final examination) where students are involved in projects, teamwork, presentation, extra- and co-curricular activities.
    • Duration: The ADP program lasts for 4 years. Students will study at least two years before applying to transfer to a university in the USA to complete the remaining years.
    • Number of Subjects: Students will take about 40 subjects (110 – 140 credit hours) in total during their four years of studies, where 20 subjects (60 credit hours) are completed at ADP and the rest are completed in the USA. Students will normally take about 4-5 subjects each semester.

    • The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is an educational programme for 16-19 year olds that has global recognition. It provides a gateway qualification recognised and valued by universities all over the world.
    • Who Should Study the IB? : The IB Curriculum is designed to offer Learners a breadth of study, while still allowing for specialisation in areas that the Learners are interested in. The Diploma is underpinned by the Learner Profile comprising 10 desirable attributes in all high functioning individuals: knowledgeable, thinkers, inquirers, communicators, courageous, open-minded, principled, balanced, caring, reflective.
    • Duration: 2 years
    • Assessment: The IB Curriculum subjects are assessed using both internal and external assessment and the IB courses finish with a series of externally assessed examinations. Internal assessment varies by subject (there may be oral presentations, practical work, or written works) and in most cases is initially graded by the classroom teacher, whose grades are then verified or modified, as necessary, by an appointed, external moderator.
    • Recognition: The IB Diploma Programme provides Learners who complete the IB Diploma Course with an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is accepted by many universities worldwide.
    • Number of Subjects: All students must choose three Higher Level subjects and three Standard Level subjects from six fixed subject groups.
      1. Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature
      2. Group 2: Language Acquisition
      3. Group 3: Individuals and Societies (Humanities)
      4. Group 4: Experimental Sciences
      5. Group 5: Mathematics
      6. Group 6: The Arts**if students do not wish to choose an Arts subject then a further subject from Groups 2-4 can be selected instead.

What are the Entry Requirements for the Pre-University (Pre-U) Programmes?

  • The entry requirement for most diploma programmes is 3 relevant credits in IGCSE/O-Levels. Some healthcare diploma programmes may require 5 credits including science and maths.
  • The requirements for all the rest of the Pre-U courses are at least 5 credits in IGCSE/O-Levels. Entry requirements for Pre-University courses leading to Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry are at least 5Bs including all sciences and Maths subjects. In addition, some foreign branch campuses may have higher admission requirements for their Foundation programmes.
