Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels with at least 5 credits including the relevant subjects may enter Taylor’s University Foundation in Business  for 1 year before continuing on to the Business Administration degree.

Alternatively, students with at least 3 credits can go for the 2-year Diploma in Business and then enter into Year 2 of the Business degree programme.

Pre-University graduates in Malaysia from programmes such as UEC, STPM, A-Levels, SAM, CPU, AUSMAT and others may enter directly into the 3-year Business degree providing they meet the minimum entry requirements.

Subjects Taught

The finance program consists of specialization modules which provide basic understanding of investment management, financial institutions and capital markets, economic and governance policies, risk management, data and financial technology as well as financial planning.

  • Corporate Finance
    This subject examines the various analytical techniques used in capital budgeting and the capital structure decisions. Other topics include estimation cost of capital, investment decisions, public offering and dividend payment, working capital management decisions as well as international risk are studied from an empirical and theoretical viewpoint.
  • Personal Financial Planning
    Personal financial planning equips students with adequate financial knowledge and awareness to make sound financial decisions and ensure lifelong personal financial wealth. Students will be exposed to financial issues typically encountered by individuals in the future and strategies which can be used to resolve them effectively. Topics covered include cash flow and debt management, and planning relating to tax, investment, risk management & insurance, retirement and wealth distribution.
  • Risk Management
    This module is designed to provide a comprehensive approach to identify the main areas of risk in an organization with a view towards recommending appropriate measures to mitigate any adverse impact to the organization, and at the same time to preserve shareholder value. The module aims to provide a good knowledge and understanding of the economic and business concepts of risk in the main functional areas of a business (eg. credit risk, market risk, operational risk). This will enable the student to critically evaluate the main areas of risk in a business; and deal with complex problems relating to those risks. Besides providing the students with an appreciation of the range of the main areas of risk in the business, the module aims to provide a strategic framework in which the student can employ various tools and mechanisms for managing risk.
  • Financial Markets
    On completion of this module students should demonstrate an understanding of a financial system, its operation and component parts; yield curve analysis, the term structure of interest rates, and exchange rate interaction; sources and types of business finance, short, medium and long term, domestic and overseas, and associate pricing formulae; the structure and operation of Malaysian financial institutions and markets; the major types of risk and the derivative products available to manage financial risk; the structure, functions and role of prudential supervision in the financial markets.
  • Portfolio Management
    On completion of this module students should demonstrate an understanding of the Portfolio Management, theories involved, analysis used, valuation models, portfolio management and portfolio performance evaluation techniques. The course is a capstone module and, as such, draws on and integrates materials from earlier modules, as well as introducing new materials.
  • Advanced Corporate Finance
    This module covers the underlying concepts of corporate finance and financial management theory including the roles of financial managers. Various check and balance relationships are explored, including those involving the corporate management and regulatory organizations that watch over corporate ownership and control. This module also includes the implications of associated research findings for corporate investors and managers. Additional topics include the sources and uses of funds, time value of money, sunk, incremental and opportunity costs and methods of investment decision appraisal. This module also aim to provide exposure to students on how to apply ethical conduct based on Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Standards and Professional Conduct, Rules of Procedure, Membership Agreement and other applicable rules promulgated by CFA Institute.
  • International Finance
    The subject introduces main concepts and methods associated with international financial decision-making for multinational business which includes, the concept of multinational financial management, foreign exchange, risk analysis and tools, financing foreign trade, international portfolio investment and corporate strategy. The outcomes of international trading and investment decisions are more directly affected by exchange rate variability than similar decisions taken with respect to domestic markets. The module will also enable students to appreciate the role of corporate strategy in international business expansion and its management of risk.
  • Derivatives
    In the changing economy Derivatives and Securities play a vital role for the development. This is a module that examines derivatives such as Forward, Futures, Swaps, and Options as well as hedging, speculation and arbitrage strategy with these derivatives instruments. Topics will include derivative markets, trading strategies in derivative market, derivative pricing models and risk management with derivatives.
COMPLEMENTARY STUDIES

The Complementary Studies component provides student the flexibility to study modules in a related or unrelated field from the same or different school to complement the Primary Major. It may be completed in a form of free electives, an extension, minors or a second major that typically requires at least one (1) semester of student learning time.
