In order to have a successful career as an engineer, students must choose to study at the best private universities in Malaysia whose degree programmes are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM).

The entry requirements will vary from university to university, some may have higher entry requirements. Therefore, you will need to check with the particular university for their exact requirements. I have listed the basic requirements as stated by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Generally, it is understood that SPM students must have a pass in BM and Sejarah because if you fail either one, means that you have failed the SPM examination. In addition, a “Credit” for SPM/IGCSE/O-Levels are A, B and C. For UEC, a “Credit” is A and B. For the A-Levels, a Principal is from A to E.

For students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels, they can choose the Foundation in Natural & Built Environment.

Upon successful completion of the 1-year Foundation, you will then enter into the undergraduate degree in architecture for another 3 years. The Degree must be accredited by the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) equivalent to LAM Part 1.

Students who have obtained the relevant results in Pre-U Programmes can enter the architecture degree for 3 years.

After the Bachelors in Architecture, the next step is to go into an accredited Masters in Architecture degree equivalent to LAM Part 2 for another 2 years. Architecture Masters Degree Graduates in Malaysia will then work for 2 years and then sit for the LAM Part 3 exams and then to finally become an architect.

The whole process after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels will take you at least 8 years to become a professional architect in Malaysia. Normally it will be longer than that.

For architecture, students must choose a university where their degree is accredited by Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia for Part 1. Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels can enter the Foundation leading to the architecture degree at these top private universities in Malaysia. A solid architecture foundation course will help prepare students to handle the rigours of the architecture degree programme.

The Foundation in Natural & Built Environment programme is a passport to the architecture undergraduate degrees offered at top private universities in Malaysia. Generally, the modules offered in the architecture foundation are specifically tailored for direct progression to the particular university’s architecture degree programmes. Assessment for Foundation programmes in Malaysia will vary from university to university. It will contain a mix of coursework, assignments, quizzes and exams.

Top private universities in Malaysia, have developed their own internal university foundation programmes. The curriculum and examination of the Foundation in Architecture programmes are set by the local private colleges & universities, following the quality criteria set by the Ministry of Higher Education and quality assurance agency, Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Studying architecture, as well as the pathway to become a professional architect in Malaysia can be very challenging. Determined students would need to check if the degree courses are accredited by Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM).
