In order to have a successful career as an engineer, students must choose to study at the best private universities in Malaysia whose degree programmes are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
The entry requirements will vary from university to university, some may have higher entry requirements. Therefore, you will need to check with the particular university for their exact requirements. I have listed the basic requirements as stated by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
Generally, it is understood that SPM students must have a pass in BM and Sejarah because if you fail either one, means that you have failed the SPM examination. In addition, a “Credit” for SPM/IGCSE/O-Levels are A, B and C. For UEC, a “Credit” is A and B. For the A-Levels, a Principal is from A to E.

What’s the Education Pathway to a Computing Degree after Secondary School?

Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels should also note that you don’t really need to choose your area of specialisation yet as you have 1 year in Foundation in Computing & Technology or 2 years in the Diploma in Information Technology to study the general subjects in computing.
As you study the general subjects in computing, you will gain more in-depth understanding of what each area is about and will be able to make a better decision on which area to specialise in.
Students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels may go for the Foundation in Computing or Information Technology at top private universities in Malaysia for 1 year before continuing on to the 3-year Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Software Engineering degree.
With 3 credits in SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels including Maths, students may go for the 2-year Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Computer Studies or Diploma in Software Engineering and then enter into Year 2 of the degree course.
Finally, Pre-University students with the relevant results can enter directly into Year 1 of the Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Software Engineering degree at the best university in Malaysia.

Mak, Ong & Chaw – Diploma in Information Technology (IT) at Multimedia University (MMU)
The Diploma in Information Technology (IT) may also be known as Diploma in Computer Science, Diploma in Software Engineering or Diploma in Computer Studies. The Diploma in Information Technology (IT) is the first step for students after SPM or IGCSE/O-Levels wanting to pursue a tertiary education in computer science or computing degree programmes.
The course in Malaysia is designed for those without any computing knowledge as well as those who wish to pursue careers in computer-based environments, particularly in programming and information systems.
Students can take the Diploma for 2 years and then upon completion, continue on into Year 2 of any of the Computing fields.
- SPM/IGCSE/O-Levels – At least credits in THREE (3) subjects, including Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science subject AND a pass in English;
- UEC – Minimum 3 credits inclusive of Mathematics and Science (Pass is required for English)
