Not every business course is the same nor is every university the same. Each has its own different subject focus and student culture. When you carefully choose the best coach and training plan, you are then assured of a higher chance of success in winning. Don’t just walk blindly into your future and end up jobless or struggle in your career because you lack important skills resulting in low salary.

A business degree prepares you for a career that may stretch across any sector or industry. Your career options are therefore varied. Obtaining the right business degree can offer you a bright future as the job demand and salaries for the various business careers are high.

The business degree will take you 3 years to complete. A good business degree will help graduates to excel and put them on a fast track to reach higher level of management in any company.

Keeping this in mind, here are ten things you should know and do as a business student to maximise the value of your time studying at a private university in Malaysia and hit the ground running when your studies have been completed:

1. Choose the Right Business Course with Future Job Demand

Popular business courses doesn’t mean that they are the best for you. Many students choose popular business courses like business administration or management without much consideration of the future job demand that the degree programme will open for them.

Students after secondary school must carefully consider the future job demand for the business programmes that they plan to study. With the advent of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, rapid advancements in technology has changed job roles dramatically making some jobs obsolete. Therefore, if students are not careful in choosing the right course, you may graduate and be jobless.

When choosing your major after completing your Pre-University Programme or Foundation in Business, look at the future job demand and salary for the business courses that you are considering to see if they would still be relevant when you graduate and beyond.

If you have chosen the right business major, you can then rest assured of obtaining a job upon graduation and a secure upward mobility with excellent remuneration and benefits. With that, you will be able to live a comfortable life and pursue your dreams. You can read more from this article: Which are the 8 Best Business Degree Courses to Study?

2. Subjects Covered in the Business Degree

Before you officially enrol in your business degree programme, take the time to thoroughly review your course subjects and degree requirements. Are they relevant, up-to-date, and help you to achieve your career goals

Not all business courses with the same title will have the same subjects and academic aims. Every university in Malaysia will differ slightly in the subjects therefore you will need to look at the subjects to see which one fits your needs and career goals.

3. Is the Business Major Accredited and Possess the Necessary Exemptions from Professional Bodies?

You will also need to look at the necessary accreditations and recognition from professional bodies for your degree of choice. All foundation, diploma and degree programmes must be accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Furthermore, check out what are the number of exemptions for the degree from professional bodies.

Accounting courses would need exemptions from professional bodies such as the ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, etc while Actuarial Science would seek exemptions from SOA, IFOA, etc. The number of exemptions will vary from university to university, therefore, you should check to see if the course that you intend to study at that university has the highest number of exemptions from the relevant professional body. You don’t want to graduate and then find out that you have to spend more time to complete a lot of the professional papers.

In a globalised world, having connections from different parts of the world may prove useful should your future boss send you off on an overseas business trip, or ask you to deal with an international client. This strong group of peers will be an invaluable resource throughout your entire career.
