Game Art Specialisation in the Bachelor of Game Development (Hons) at KDU University College

Game Development student work at KDU University College

If you’ve ever considered how cool it would be to create the inspiring conceptual art, animations. 3D characters and environments you see in today’s modern games, then KDU University College is indeed the place for you! If you are a visual person that loves doodling, sculpting, watching animation, reading comics, dreaming up fantastic worlds, our Game Art major focuses on giving you the head-start you’d need to become one of the best Game Artists in the market. You’d be empowered not only to create excellent game-art assets but also given insights into the industry and the means to pursue a career as a fledgling Game Artist

Game Development student work at KDU University College

Though every aspect in the game developing process is as important as the next, the first factor that a game will be judged on are its graphics. This is where game artists come into play. Game artists specialize in the creation of everything visual in the game, from characters to the interface.

Game artists play an integral role in the game development pipeline. They are responsible for creating concept art for the game, and this concept art will give the rest of the development team, namely the designers a better idea on how to create content based on that concept. Without concept art, the game design team will have a hard time imagining how to create gameplay mechanics and level designs for that game. In other words, the art team is necessary to begin those first few steps in the development stages.

KDU University College Game Design Development students

Those choosing to major in Game Art under KDU’s Game Development program will be trained to do just that. You will be taught on how to create good concept art, 2D sprites, 3D models, animations, and effective user interface. Aiding you in the creation of these assets are digital imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop as well as texture, imaging and 3D modeling and animation software such as 3D SMax 2012.

Students in this major are expected to be well-versed in production art such as digital painting and drawing. Apart from that, they will be required to come up with good illustrative work such as typography and graphic design. You will be required to draw on both paper and digitally via tablets. By equipping students with these skills, a foundation for both digital and non-digital output can be established.

Being a game artist, the freedom to express your creativity is always present. Take games like El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron and Okami for example. The graphics and artwork present in these games were produced by game artists, and truth be told, without the visual cues from them, these games wouldn’t have made much of an impact.

Ever had that feeling after playing a game that you’ve got some great ideas that could have made it better? Do you like to come up with fun ideas for others to try? Do you analyze a game to try to figure out what makes it so fun? Our Game Design major at KDU University College is where you learn the craft of creating fun experiences.

You will create worlds, craft characters, figure out what they’ll say and what monsters they slay. Stories, level-design, powers and rewards are your tools in creating a fun experience for your players. Learn to work with artists and programmers to create a game that will be a joy for others to play, and be able to add a sense of fun to any interactive entertainment application.

Shigeru Miyamoto, Will Wright, Sid Meier. David Jaffe. Hideo Kojima – These names belong to notable game designers who have created (and continue to create) some of the most beloved game franchises and characters in the gaming industry and community. To most people, these names will not raise an eyebrow. But repeat the same list of names to a group of gamers and you will see a spark of recognition in their eyes.

So what does it take to be a game designer? Most people mistakenly believe that to be a game designer, all you need is a concept or constantly come up with ideas. But ideas are cheap – anybody can come up with an idea. One of the biggest games franchises in the world is pretty much about an Italian plumber who rescues the princess by jumping on his enemies’ heads. So what makes a game like Super Mario Bros. so engaging? To put simply, it’s all about the experience.

KDU game development students showcase games at industry preview ‘Jingle Mingle’

Designing games is the art of crafting experiences, thus the job of a game designer is to transform a game idea into a reality. The KDU Game Design program teaches students new to game design in the fields of game mechanics, gameplay, game balancing and level design.

This requires basic scripting and programming ability, so you need to have a solid grasp of mathematics, logic and an understanding of the computer medium. A practical knowledge of graphic design helps, and a good knowledge of other game genres to draw references from can be incredibly
useful to budding game designers.

KDU University College’s Game Lab

When you are enrolled in the KDU Game Design program, you will also learn story scripting, concept settings, play testing, and game rules, which helps you to define the rules and framework that the game takes place in. A good game designer draws from other non-technical fields such as literature, philosophy, psychology, and even music. Even a basic understanding of art principles can be beneficial to game designers, allowing them to create highly stylized works that draw players in.

But most importantly as a game designer, you must be willing to self-reflect on your own work. You must be able to take criticism because game critics are aplenty in this day and time. Be introspective, study and analyze your own work. A game designer must also be willing to realize his limits because eventually, a game needs to be shipped or released to public for people to gauge its playability.

Game Technology (Game Programming) Degree Specialisation at KDU University College

Game Development student work at KDU University College

“KDU’s game development degree course has been designed from the ground up with industry standards in mind. Each of their staff members involved with designing, delivering and overseeing the course has done so with industry experience and standards in mind. the openness to industry input and the enthusiasm with which they have taken pragmatic steps to mould realistic games education is refreshing and exemplary.” said Ivon Smith, Technical Art Trainer of Codemasters Studio Sdn Bhd

If you’ve ever wondered about the inner workings of how Mario is able to jump and stomp on monsters, the complex rules of physics behind Portal, the network server codes that supports millions of players in World of Warcraft or any other advance technological features in today’s modern games, then KDU University College is indeed the place for you.

Game Development student work at KDU University College

If you’re a tech-geek that loves solving problems, coding, hacking, keeping up with the latest technology and trends, our Game Technology major focuses on preparing you to be the best Game Programmer in the market. With the industry knowledge and skill-sets we equip you with, you would have the upper-hand over your peers in pursuing a career as a Game Programmer.

In every game, behind those dazzling special effects, the intriguing dialogues, or even the enjoyable gameplay system, they are bound together by strict and complex lines of codes. These codes govern how the game functions, when certain sounds are meant to happen and more importantly, help makes the game play smoothly without crashing. Within the technological aspect of game development, student will learn the digital clockwork of what makes a game tick.

Game Development student work at KDU University College

Among the many lessons that game development students will familiarize themselves with includes the essentials programmers used to develop the latest games. If the art and designs are able to imagine these fantastical worlds, then programmers are responsible for laying the foundation blocks in making these worlds into a reality. As a result, to effectively learn their applications, students will need to have strong mathematics, logicbased thinking and heavy programming knowledge.

Some of the programs that will be used to teach students will include the likes of Unreal Development Kits, Microsoft XNA Game Studio, Unity 3D or Ogre 3D.Besides building new worlds, it is also important to help player interact with their surrounding realistically through physics. A good example of this application is Portal 2, which lets players solve logic-based puzzles with the help of physics. It is through the coding of both realistic cause and effects that no only creates a realistic world but also a fun one.

Game Development student work at KDU University College

However, not all games are necessarily developed using the same tool. Different titles may use older, established engines, while newer titles may use upgraded iterations of completely new engines. That is why programmers must familiarize themselves with the unique nuances of multiple engines. For instance, left 4 Dead 2 is a game that runs on the venerable Source Engine from Valve, while Kojima Production has been developing the Fox Engine to power its up-and-coming projects. It is also important for students to understand the use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), which governs how the game will react to the players. This is what makes games like the hitman series interesting as you watch your target react in ways that give players a dynamic challenge. For this to happen, complex coding is needed so that the A.I. is able to react realistically to the player’s actions.

The aspect of Game Technology is an indispensable part of the three major disciplines under the Game Development program. It is here where student will learn what makes a game function and become a fun experience for gamers.

Job Demand for Game Design Development in Malaysia

THE game development scene in Southeast Asia is set to grow in the next five to 10 years according to KDU University College’s head of school for computing and creative media Tan Chin Ike. In order for that to be a reality, there needs to be a ready talent pool for developers to tap into and sustain

The games industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. It has grown eight times since 2005 and globally, it is worth US$74 billion. In the US, the industry employs 120,000 people directly or indirectly, and the average pay for every game developer is US$90,000 per year.

It has been said that the video games industry have a net earning surpassing that of film, and with a projected growth globally to $82 billion in 2017, it definitely shows no signs of slowing. As an example of just how big the industry really is – in September 2013, Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto 5 crossed USD$1 Billion in sales in just three days making it the fastest-selling property across all forms of entertainment. And in November 2015, Bethesda’s Fallout 4 sold 12 million copies and generated over $750 million in its first 24 hours at retail. To put the games sales into context across other forms of entertainment, the global music industry sees less than $1.4 billion in record and song sales each month.

Malaysia’s game development industry offers a great opportunity and demand for skillful and creative talents in the upcoming future. Malaysia has about 700 people currently employed in the games industry, a figure that is hoped to grow considerably in the coming years. Moreover, the country is home to companies that produce a sizeable amount of content.

There is little doubt that the creative multimedia industry has become a lucrative market – as of 2013, the sector recorded a total revenue of RM6.39bil with export sales amounting to RM430mil, according to the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). MDeC, which has been tasked to grow the sector, says as of last year there are 334 active companies responsible for over 10,000 jobs nationwide.

According to estimates, the Malaysian video games market reached US$293 million in 2015, an increase of 30.9% from 2014, making the country the 26th largest games market in the world and the third largest in Southeast Asia.

KDU University College is the first to offer the degree in Game Development in Malaysia

Malaysia has been involved in the animation industry as far back as the 1980s, and with the gaming industry as far back as the 1990s, said Tan Chin Ike, head of school for KDU University College’s School of Computing & Creative Media. Local companies have worked on projects for platforms such as Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Color and DS handheld gaming systems, as well as the Sony PlayStation console.

According to studies conducted by PricewaterHouseCoopers (PwC) and Ovum indicate that the games market would see high growth rates over the next four to five years. The video games market in Malaysia is poised to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8% between 2011 and 2015.

KDU University College offers the degree in Games Development. Students have access to Alienware in their Game Lab.

Growth will be supported by the growing spending on game applications, especially social and mobile gaming, which will be four times more than spending on music. According to industry observers, the platform has undergone a lot of growth that there is tremendous opportunity in the mobile and social game monetisation space.

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA), Malaysia, lists up to 48 game companies, 10 of which engage in co-production with foreign partners. Employment is on-going both for the technically-inclined as well as for those in design, marketing and business backgrounds.

To establish Malaysia as a regional game development centre, the Performance Management & Delivery Unit (Pemandu) together with KDU University has established the MyGameDev2020 which will run as an entry point project under Economic Transformation Program’s Education NKEA (National Key Results Area).

MyGameDev2020 encourages students to join the game development course while getting rid of road blocks. Through this venture, the government hopes to see a significant increase of mass skilled talents in the local game development industry.

Game Design graduates may also go to Singapore to find jobs. For example, the workforce of Ubisoft Singapore — the French gaming giant’s Asian office — is made up of about 20% to 30% Malaysians.

According to a report, the job prospects for information technology (IT) professionals  in Malaysia is very good and well trained ICT professionals can earn a high salary. It is important to choose the best university in Malaysia to study the Information Technology (IT) course so that you can gain vital knowledge and skills to succeed in your career.

Graduating with a Information Technology (IT) degree from a top private university in Malaysia allows you to choose from a wide range of careers in software development, business analysis, ITC consulting, data modelling, systems integration and network management.

The Foundation in Information Technology (IT) programmes are cheaper than the external Pre-University programmes and generally easier. If you do not plan on going overseas for your degree programme, then it is better to go for the Foundation programme at a top private university in Malaysia.

Foundation in Information Technology or Foundation in Computer Studies courses are intensive, focused one-year courses which prepare students for your computing degree studies in Malaysia and guarantee entry to the university of interest upon successful completion. First Rate Universities in Malaysia Offering the Best Foundation in Information Technology (IT) or Foundation in Computer Studies Course

Increased Job Demand for Information Technology (IT) Professionals in Malaysia

Being in Sabah made it difficult for me to survey the universities in Peninsula. I found EduSpiral online and they provided detailed information & helped me with my application. They even took me around the university for a tour when I went to visit.
Xavier Phang, Software Engineering at Asia Pacific University

Organisations in Malaysia are already reinventing themselves to embrace digitisation, so it comes as no surprise that this field is observing – now and in the future – a steady and strong demand. Software development, data centres, big data analytics and cloud computing are rapidly developing areas.

Digital or IT-related jobs, including content creators, data scientists, programmers and Information Technology (IT) professionals will continue to stay in demand for the next decade in Malaysia. And, with a growing number of large-scale cyberattacks including the global WannaCry ransomware which infected more than 300,000 computers in 150 countries this year, it’s no surprise that cybersecurity experts are high on the wanted list. Organisations need qualified and experienced computing professionals to safeguard their IT operations.

The gap between the demand for information and computer technology (ICT) talent and the supply of that talent is large. Study indicates that the existing situation cannot even supply half of the demand by 2020, about 500,000 human capital educated in science and technology will be needed in Malaysia. From this number, at least 30,000 graduates are required in the ICT job market.

EduSpiral advised me on Facebook and then met me and my friends at APU to take us around for a tour.
Edward, Software Engineering at Asia Pacific University

According to PIKOM, there are many jobs out there for IT graduates and there are also many jobless IT graduates. The reason for this is that there is a mismatch of the courses with the skill needed. In addition, the training that the students received was not up to the standard needed in the industry.

With the increased demand for trained professionals in information technology (IT) and the many universities for students to choose from, it is important for the student to be able to choose a university that will build a solid foundation to be successful in this challenging but rewarding career.

Students after SPM or O-Levels interested in a career in information technology, software engineering, computer science or cyber security can go for the 1-year Foundation in Information Technology programmes at top private universities in Malaysia.  The Foundation in Information Technology (IT) programmes are cheaper and generally easier than the external Pre-University programmes.

Learn how to become a computer science professional in Malaysia by talking to knowledgeable & experienced counselors and then choosing the best private university for your degree studies. Research the education and career requirements, training and certification information and experience needed to be successful in your future career in information technology or computer science in Malaysia.

Study Foundation in Information Technology (IT) or Foundation in Computer Studies Course at Top Universities in Malaysia

Many top private universities in Malaysia, have developed their own internal university foundation programmes. The Foundation in Information Technology (IT) and Foundation in Computing & Technology courses are accredited by the Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) and recognised by the respective foreign partner universities. The Foundation in Information Technology (IT) subjects are geared more specifically to Information Technology courses unlike the external qualifications which focus on more general Science and Art-based subjects.

I was lost in choosing the right course. My dad contacted EduSpiral to talk to me. He listened to me & guided me to make the right choice.
Hubert, Foundation in Computing & Technology at Asia Pacific University

You will get the chance to study a variety of subject areas related to computer studies in the Foundation in Information Technology (IT) or Foundation in Computing & Technology Programme. This will not only give you an idea of what subject you may like to progress on to, but also to develop the valuable learning skills necessary for pursue a degree. A Foundation Programme in Malaysia can be 2 semesters with 6 months each semester or 3 semesters with 4 months each semester.

Assessment for Foundation in Information Technology (IT) or Foundation in Computing & Technology programmes in Malaysia will vary from university to university. It will contain a mix of coursework, assignments, quizzes and exams. The coursework could cover different assessment tasks such as projects, assignments, laboratory work, presentations, tests, and others as assigned throughout each semester. The final examination is conducted at the end of each semester. The assessments are subject to quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards and ensuring fair assessment.

List of Top 10 Reasons to Study Software Engineering in Malaysia

EduSpiral took me & my friends to tour a few universities to help us make the right choice. He then met me & my father for further counseling & to assist in registering.
Horng Yarng, Diploma in ICT at Asia Pacific University

Software Engineering is an Engineering profession concerned with the processes, methods, and tools for the design and development of high quality, reliable software systems. This involves the study and application of software specification, design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software. Target systems may range from simple software applications to mission-critical real-time systems.

Software Engineering includes the design and implementation of specific, reliable, efficient and secure software systems for a multitude of purposes. Of course, you also have to be able to write or code software if you are going to be able to build the systems around it. ‘Software’ are the programs that we all use on our computers – but Software Engineering goes so much deeper than that. Software engineers usually design a program to fulfil a certain need or solve a problem. Every time you use your email, or an app on your smartphone or a computer accounting system you are using software.

Software Engineering is concerned with the design and implementation of reliable and secure software systems, which have the functionality required for the intended purpose. Software Engineering is also sometimes referred to as “software programming”. Software Engineering is a booming industry with no shortage of opportunities to create unique and life changing programs.

I had wanted to go to another university near my house for IT after my A-Levels. After consulting EduSpiral, I realised that I should choose the best university for IT so that I can gain the necessary knowledge and skills for a successful career in this competitive field.

Career Opportunities for Malaysian Software Engineering Graduates

I was planning to study in IPTA after STPM but then my parents talked to EduSpiral. They realised the importance of studying at a top award winning university for computing.
Mark Siew, Software Engineering at Asia Pacific University

Even companies that have been associated largely with hardware in the past estimate that 80-90% of their engineers are involved in software development. As a consequence of this rapid expansion there is a serious worldwide shortage of software engineers who are able to deal with the complexity of developing high-quality software systems. The software industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world with work opportunities in many areas including, but not limited to, telecommunications, defence, electronics and, of course, software development and computing. With a Software Engineering degree, you will be qualified to design, program and create software for literally anything you can think of.

Given the ubiquitous nature of software in modern society, software engineers can find employment opportunities in many areas. These will include, but will not be limited to, the computing, software, electronics, telecommunications, security and defence industries.

Organisations in Malaysia are already reinventing themselves to embrace digitisation, so it comes as no surprise that this field is observing – now and in the future – a steady and strong demand. Software development, data centres, big data analytics and cloud computing are rapidly developing areas. Digital or IT-related jobs, including content creators, data scientists and IT professionals will continue to stay in demand for the next decade.

According to Hays, the increasing threat of cyber security has created huge demand for security experts

who can safeguard the IT systems of organisations against malicious cyber-attacks. And, with a growing number of large-scale cyberattacks including the global WannaCry ransomware which infected more than 300,000 computers in 150 countries this year, it’s no surprise that cybersecurity experts are high in demand.

The Pikom Job Market Outlook in Malaysia 2017 report found that professionals in the industries mentioned were paid an average of RM8,952 per month, last year. Pikom (The National ICT Association of Malaysia) is targeting a 6.7% growth for the average monthly salary of IT professionals this year, bringing it to RM9,056, which is more than double the amount in 2007. It is heartening to note that looking at a 10-year period, the ICT industry average monthly salary has doubled since 2007.

In 2014, employees who remained in-role received salary increases between 5-10%, while those who moved organisations received between 15-25%. We expect this trend to continue in 2015 – potentially rising further for e-commerce professionals who will be in demand as organisations set-up IT hubs in Malaysia.

career in Software Engineering in Malaysia can be rewarding with a high job demand for qualified and trained professionals. Salary for software engineers is one of the top in Malaysia. Students should choose the best software engineering course to study in Malaysia and at a top university.

Software Engineering is the practice of designing and implementing large, reliable, efficient and economical software by applying the principles and practices of engineering.

Software Engineering is the field of studying, devising and building a practical solution to a problem. The objective of a software engineer is to understand a problem within a computer and create software that eases the problem. This could include either manipulating existing software or creating a new one from scratch. Software is required to make computer function. This job is mostly a team effort. Engineers group together with programmers in order to build a software that works with the system at hand.

Many subjects that are learned in Software Engineering is similar to the ones learned in Computer Science, but it also includes additional subjects such as requirements engineering, software architecture, software testing, and software deployment. Other areas that play an importance in this field include leadership, communication, time management, people management, etc. The engineers must plan out the best way to tackle the situation at hand and create a step by step process on how to accomplish this task. They may require to code in certain time, but most of the coding is done by programmers. A software engineer requires a background in software creation, programming languages, mathematics and computer hardware.

Software engineers when developing software go through a software process. This software process model

is an abstraction of software process and is also known as process paradigms. The first published model for the software process is known as the Waterfall model. When a software is being made it must first be conceptualized on the paper, following which the program is designed and then asked to be written.

The software then goes through vigorous testing and a soft release before it is made public. According to Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge, a widely accepted standard; software engineering can be divided into ten sub-disciplines: Software requirements, software design, software construction, software testing, software maintenance, software configuration management, software engineering management, software engineering process and software quality.

Software engineers learn much more about creating high-quality software in a systematic, controlled, and efficient manner. Software engineers are trained in all aspects of the software life cycle, from specification through analysis and design, to testing maintenance and evaluation of the product. They are concerned with safety and reliability of the product as well as cost and schedule of the development process.

Software Engineering has its roots in the theory and mathematics of computer science. While its study has a lot in common with computer science, software engineers learn much more about creating high-quality software in a systematic, controlled, and efficient manner.

Software engineers are trained in all aspects of the software life cycle, from specification through analysis and design, to testing maintenance and evaluation of the product. They are concerned with safety and reliability of the product as well as cost and schedule of the development process.

Software engineering is the discipline of developing and maintaining software systems that behave
reliably and efficiently, are affordable to develop and maintain, and satisfy all the requirements that
customers have defined for them. More recently, it has evolved in response to factors such as the growing impact of large and expensive software systems in a wide range of situations and the increased importance of software in safety-critical applications.

Software engineering is different in character from other engineering disciplines due to both the
intangible nature of software and the discontinuous nature of software operation. It seeks to integrate the
principles of mathematics and computer science with the engineering practices developed for tangible,
physical artifacts. Prospective students in Malaysia can expect to see software engineering presented in two contexts.

  • Degree programs in computer science offer one or more software engineering courses as elements of
the Computer Science curriculum. Some offer a multi-course concentration in software engineering within Computer Science.
  • A number of institutions offer a software engineering degree program.

Degree programs in computer science and in software engineering have many subjects in common. Software engineering students learn more about software reliability and maintenance and focus more on
techniques for developing and maintaining software that is correct from its inception.

While Computer Science students are likely to have heard of the importance of such techniques, the engineering knowledge and experience provided in Software Engineering programs go beyond what Computer Science programs can provide.

The importance of this fact is so great that one of the recommendations of the Software Engineering report is that, during their program of study, students of Software Engineering should participate in the development of software to be used in earnest by others. Software Engineering students learn how to assess customer needs and develop usable software that meets those needs. Knowing how to provide genuinely useful and usable software is of paramount importance.

In the workplace, the term software engineer is a job label. There is no standard definition for this term
when used in a job description. Its meaning varies widely among employers. It can be a title equivalent to
computer programmer or a title for someone who manages a large, complex, and/or safety-critical
software project. The layman must be mindful not confuse the discipline of software engineering with the
ambiguous use of the term software engineer as used in employment advertisements and job titles.

Computing consists of several fields, and many respected colleges and universities in Malaysia offer undergraduate degree programmes in several of them such as computer science, computer engineering, information systems, information technology, software engineering, and more. These computing fields are related but also quite different from each other. The programmes represent a number of computing disciplines.

A lot of students assume that all Computing or Information Technology (IT) courses at the universities in Malaysia are the same. They are not. It is important when choosing the Computer Studies, Computer Science, Computing, Software Engineering or Information Technology (IT) course, to look at the subjects offered. You have to decide which area you want to focus on in your future career before choosing the college or university, if not, you will not possess the necessary knowledge and skills in IT.

This is important because during interviews for IT jobs, you will be given a test to assess your knowledge in IT. If you do not pass that test, you will not move on to be interviewed. IT is not like a business course, it is technical. If you do not have the necessary knowledge and skills, you will not go far in your career.

Computer software engineers, or software developers, design and develop software applications or computer systems in Malaysia. They develop computer applications for clients as well as the major systems that make a computer run.

Software Engineering is developing, designing and maintaining software systems that are reliable and efficiently carries out the tasks smoothly. The software system is created in collaboration with the needs and requirements of the clients. The software designed must be user friendly for the staff or customers to use. Software Engineering is an integration of computer science, computer programming, mathematics and engineering practice. Software engineers apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work

Information Technology (IT)

Jerry Cheong, Diploma in ICT at Asia Pacific University

Information technology (IT) is the application of computers to store, study, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data, or information, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. IT is considered a subset of information and communications technology (ICT).

IT includes several layers of physical equipment (hardware), virtualization and management or automation tools, operating systems and applications (software) used to perform essential functions. User devices, peripherals and software, such as laptops, smartphones or even recording equipment, can be included in the IT domain. IT can also refer to the architectures, methodologies and regulations governing the use and storage of data

Information Technology (IT) involves many things. Take, for instance, an IT department in a company in Malaysia where there are many people with many jobs and a variety of responsibilities. These responsibilities range from keeping systems and data secure to keeping networks up and running. There are people who input data, people who manage databases and people who do programming.

Information Technology (IT) also includes the management of data, whether it is in the form of text, voice, image, audio or some other form. It can also involve things related to the Internet. This gives IT a whole new meaning, since the Internet is its own realm. Information Technology (IT) involves the transfer of data, so it makes sense that the Internet would be a part of IT. IT has become a part of our everyday lives and continues to proliferate into new realms.

Typically, Information Technology (IT) is used in the context of enterprise operations as opposed to personal or entertainment technologies. The commercial use of IT encompasses both computer technology and telephony.
