Entry Requirements for Medicine and Pharmacy at top universities in Malaysia


Below is a sample of the entry requirements for the Pharmacy and Medical (MBBS) degree programmes at the top private universities in Malaysia, UCSI University, IMU University and MAHSA University, for you to compare.

UCSI University

Entry Requirements into UCSI University Doctor of Medicine (MD) course 

STPM / A-Levels (Other colleges) (Science stream)

SPM

For students after SPM and interested to enter into UCSI’s Foundation in Science leading into the MD programme, you must have a Min 4B for Maths, Additional Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

English Requirements for the Medical programme at UCSI University

B+ in English 1119 / ‘O’ Levels, MUET Band 5, a score of 213 (computer-based), 550 (written-based), 79 – 80 (Internetbased) in TOEFL or Band 6 in IELTS

  • 3B proposed by LFM is equal to the total score of 300 with B for Chemistry subject.

STPM

CGPA 3.00 and above with ‘B’ in Chemistry.

  • Malaysian students must pass Bahasa Melayu and English with Grade C in SPM or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

Matriculation or Pre-Study in Medicine and Pharmacy / Foundation in Science

CGPA 3.0 and above with minimum “B” in Chemistry. or

Pharmacy students at UCSI are given plenty opportunities to interact with the public to improve on their communication skills

Additional Requirements

  • All candidates directed into Year 1 will have to undergo an interview and a Chemistry quiz before being accepted into the programme.
  • English Requirements: MUET – Band 4; TOEFL 570 (overall & in each section) to be obtained before admission.
  • A Level students who sit for January exam to apply with actual results in March.

IMU University

Entry into IMU for the Medicine programme

Students are required to have English requirements of IELTS Overall band score of 6.5 and one of the following below:

Foundation in Science from KBU International College

KBU International College's Foundation in Science programme is accepted for entry by IMU University into their Pharmacy degree programme

Students without IELTS or MUET can opt to sit for the Password English Test which is available only in IMU and must obtain the equivalent score required for IELTS. Students who have successfully enrolled using the Password English Test are still required to sit for MUET and (or) IELTS exam within the first year of their studies in IMU. This is ONLY applicable to those who are completing the entire degree in IMU, Malaysia. Please contact Admissions Office for further details or to register for the test.All registered students are required to take the IMU Diagnostic Language Test during the first semester.
Please refer to the University for any variation on entry requirement.Chemistry is compulsory.

All qualifications should include 3 out of 4 science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics).

NOTE
Please note that IMU does not accept any foundation courses from other colleges/universities for its medical, dentistry and pharmacy programmes except foundation in science by KBU International College. Additionally, foundation in science qualification from other colleges and universities will be considered on a case by case basis for admission into medicine, dentistry and pharmacy programme. Students without IELTS or MUET can opt to sit for the Password English Test which is available only in IMU and must obtain the equivalent score required for IELTS.
