Study Mass Communication at the Best Private Universities & Colleges in Malaysia

Jacob Lean, Mass Comm at KDU University College
A Mass Communication degree from a top private university in Malaysia will allow you to examine and analyze many forms of mass media, and even more importantly, equip you to gain successful work in this continuously evolving field.
A degree in Mass Communication is an interdisciplinary course of study and opens up doors to a spectrum of careers, from advertising and broadcasting to public relations, journalism, and publishing. As a Mass Communication student, you’ll examine how media works and affects our society.
Students will analyze different forms of media, study the impact media has on our culture, and learn about media history and laws. Mass Communication students undertake a thorough investigation of mass media, from its institutions, history, and laws to the ways in which it transforms our culture.
Mass communication is the study of communicating with the masses, but is also about storytelling with strategy and purpose. The study of mass communication is centred around how messages persuade and affect the behaviour and opinion of the person or people receiving the content.
Mass Communication students will learn how to craft the message in the most creative

manner to reach the target market. They would first perform market research to find out about their target market – how they behave, what they like, where they obtain their information, etc. Mass Communication students will then come up with the right message and use the right media channels to send that message.

With the advent of the Internet, companies have begun to look for specialists who can send their messages to their market using social media, email, websites and other Internet tools. According to studies, 68% of the Malaysian population are active internet users. That’s 20.8 million people out of 30.5 million people nationwide*.
The impact of internet usage on the way Malaysians shop has been massive. From 2012 to 2014, mobile shopping in Malaysia shot up 20% in just two years**. From groceries to holidays, consumers are turning to technology to research prices, compare brands, and make purchases.
In response to this, traditional brick and mortar businesses are expanding into e-commerce. Their failure to quickly respond to changing consumer habits will put them in a vulnerable position against brands that are adapting to the digital revolution. While companies recognise the importance of expanding to online channels, they are finding it a struggle to hire skilled and experienced talent to drive goals.
