What is the Malaysian University English Test (MUET)?
Malaysian University English Test (MUET) is a test of English language proficiency largely used for admissions into public and private universities in Malaysia. The test is administered by the Malaysian Examination Council (MEC). MUET is recognised by all IPTA and IPTS. It is also recognised by some foreign universities.
The Malaysian University English Test (MUET) is compulsory English Test set for all STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) and matriculation students who intend to study a bachelor’s degree programme at the local public universities or IPTA. There is no entry requirement for MUET. It is a requirement for STPM and matriculation candidates to take MUET as a subject. Students will be issued a separate result slip for MUET. The MUET Exam is held every March, July, and November of each year. However, there is the new MUET On Demand Computer Based Test (CBT) dan Paper Based Test that students can opt for. Students may take the MUET on Demand outside of the stated exam dates.
Students planning to join private universities in Malaysia may also take MUET as an English requirement. MUET is recognised by the private universities in Malaysia as an English requirement for entry into their degree programmes. Each private university will have their own English requirement so students should check to find out what you need to achieve to enter the course. Many students take the MUET to enter private universities especially for the Accounting or Accounting and Finance degree courses.

Entry Requirements and Validity Period

- No condition is imposed for eligibility to sit for MUET.
- VALIDITY PERIOD
- For MUET results issued prior to 2009, the validity period is until 18 July, 2013 while for MUET results issued from the year 2009, the validity period is five years from the date of issue of results.

- MUET test fees are as follows:
Registration fee RM 40.00 Subject fee RM 60.00 Total RM100.00 Payment of fees must be made by purchasing a MEC PIN number from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) or through internet banking. For further information, please visit http://online.mpm.edu.my
Note: BSN will charge RM1.00 for every MEC PIN number purchased.
- Payment made will appear on the MUET Registration Slip (MUET/PP) for candidate’s reference.
MUET on Demand (MOD) fees are RM250.00

Who needs to take the MUET Exam?
STPM candidates, matriculation students, diploma and pre-university students who wish to pursue a first degree programme in Malaysia’s public universities or IPTA.
Students can also take the MUET to enter into Private Universities in Malaysia as it is recognised as an English entry requirement.
What are the Exam Dates for MUET?
Starting from 2012, MUET will be held three times a year, in March, July and November.

How many papers are there in the MUET exam?

How is the MUET Grading System like?
The MUET result slip will show marks of all the 4 individual papers – which will then be summarized into Band 1 (Very Limited User) to Band 6 (Highly Proficient). MUET Band 6 is the highest and best score and Band 1 is the lowest.

How much is the MUET exam fee?
The fee is RM60.00. Starting from 2012, the MUET fee will be increased to RM100.00.

What is the validity of the MUET results?
The validity period for MUET results are as follows:

MUET On Demand
The new MUET on Demand (MoD) is Computer Based Test (CBT). It costs RM250 and students choose the dates online. The tests will be held at the Pusat Peperiksaan MPM, EcoSky dan Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia, Selayang and other designated centres. Students will get the results after 3 weeks.
